about thakadhimi
Hi! My name is Shreya Ramanathan. I am a third year college student, a musician, a scientist, a human, and most importantly a dancer. I have been dancing for as long as I can remember. I have gone through the ups of finally nailing a tough jati and the many lows of dance like injuries, forgetting choreography on stage, and more. I love everything that is dance- the glowing light, rippling silk, thumping beats, smiling faces, twinkling salangai, and more. Blinding eyes, envious eyes, searing pain, and ripped costumes- these also represent dance for me.
I began dance after a fleeting moment of seeing a dancer with dark eyes and golden silk leaping across the stage and there began my beautiful journey with dance. From the beginning of my journey with Bharatanatyam, dance has been my outlet of self expression and way of connecting with others. As I have grown as a dancer, Bharatanatyam has also transformed into a medium for me to also reflect on and tackle serious issues such as mental health and bridge my passion for dance with my commitment to medicine.
I write this blog to not only share with you all that I have learned about dance along my journey, but also spread my love for Bharatanatyam and show how Bharatanatyam is an ancient medium to express very modern issues and ideas. For the dancers, dreamers, and people of this world- dance on!
